Abstract : The document reports on an experiment in a series designed to test the hypothesis of a total physical response, which states that listening comprehension for a foreign language can be accelerated if students are asked to emit a response with the entire body. The retention of the experimental group, who physically responded to Russian, was compared with a control group who listened to the Russian and observed an adult model perform. The result was that the retention of the experimental group, especially for complex and novel Russian utterances, was significantly better than that of the control group. (Author)
