Abstract : The paper examines the dynamics of a hydraulic or pneumatic servosystem (which differ only in their working fluid), of the type shown in a figure where the flexibility of the cylinder mountings and the flexibility of the power transmission from the stem to the load, respectively. It is shown that by introducing the concept of hydraulic or pneumatic springs, it is possible to obtain, in a convenient form, a unified version of the equations of motion of servosystems employing a liquid or a gas as the working fluid. The system equations linearized with respect to the equilibrium state of the working fluid, defined by a given relation. The analysis leads to an equation describing a closed-loop servosystem for zero initial conditions. This system can be written in a given form. It is shown that the linearized equations of motion in the form are valid both for a hydraulic and pneumatic servomechanism. The equations differ only in the numerical values of the constant coefficients and in the rigidities of the hydraulic and pneumatic springs. (Author)
