Abstract : The maximum thickening effect of Li stearate (I) was produced in the oil S-220. The form and the size of the particles were changed when aromatic hydrocarbons were present in the medium. An optimum concentration of aromatic hydrocarbons increased greatly the thickening effect of the soap. The low-temperature properties of the grease could thus be improved by varying the chemical composition of the medium. The characteristics of various media and greases, the effect of aromatic hydrocarbons on the Li grease properties are tabulated. (Author)
