Abstract : Employing vibronic coupling in the electronic wavefunctions which appear in the expression of the Raman scattering tensor it has become possible to investigate the symmetry of the scattering tensor for higher order Raman processes. The scattering tensor is symmetric except in cases where the electronic wavefunctions are complex or the Raman transition terminates on a vibrational level of an electronic excited state. (Author)
