Abstract : The Space and Missile Systems Organization of the Air Force directed System Development Corporation in December 1967 to develop the Space Programming Language. The intent of the report is to define the language subsets, to briefly describe the form of the language, and to describe the highlights of the language. Discussed are the features which facilitate aerospace computations; minimize size of source programs; optimize object program execution time and object code size; provide real-time control, machine access, input and output, and debugging; and promote transferability. The reasons SPL was developed and the implementation of the language are described in separate brochures. (Author)
