Abstract : Tunneling into rhenium single crystals amorphous carbon barriers was used to measure the dependence of the energy gap on temperature, orientation and magnetic field. Both gap and gap anisotropy were different for the cases of data from single-particle and double-particle events, respectively, indicating the importance of selection rules. Field and temperature dependences were those of a classified Type I BCS-type superconductor. Comparison with Fermi surface and phonon spectrum anisotropies indicate that for Re phonon effects dominate, in contrast to the case of Nb. (Author)
