Abstract : The report discusses four areas of research: I. A comparison was made of 3 drying techniques for obtaining unbonded fibres. Suitable methods for determining the light-scattering properties of the fibres in this condition were also examined. II. The object of the study was to examine the light-scattering coefficient and surface area of unbonded sulphite and sulphate pulp fibres, at various degrees of beating. III. The effect of certain fiber structure parameters on the light-scattering coefficient has been studied by performing measurements on sheets of model fibers (glass and rayon). IV. The opacity and strength development for various combinations of beating and wet pressing have been studied for three chemical pulps and one mechanical pulp.
