Abstract : The thermal expansion of pressed samples of cellulose I, cellulose II and hemicellulose has been studied between -5 and +70C. A new type of dilatometer based on the absorption of beta-radiation was used. Three dilatometric discontinuities (transitions) were found in this temperature range and their dependence on the state of the samples, particularly their water content, was investigated. The positions of the three transitions and their dependence on the water content are closely similar for all the samples studied. (Author)
