Abstract : A theoretical and experimental distinction is made between order information, in which an item's serial position is stored, and item information. It is suggested that the rehersal possible at slow rates is largely used to organize order information, and that loss of order information leads to a deterioration in performance at high rates, when the traditional ordered recall is used.
