Abstract : A turbulence probe suitable for measurements in water and dilute fibre suspensions was designed. It consists essentially of a piezo-electric ceramic disc which senses the small fluctuations in impact pressure induced by turbulence in the flow. The probe is sufficiently accurate and robust to be used for headbox characterization in the paper mill. Reliable calibration methods were developed. The influence of extraneous factors, such as vibration, temperature fluctuation, abrasion and electrical hum and noise, was investigated and the associated difficulties largely overcome. A few results of measurements are presented. (Author)
