Abstract : Solutions of simple sugars and dextrans covering the molecular weight range of 180 to 2 x 10 to the 6th and the hydrodynamic diameter range of 8 to 560 A were used to measure the pore size distribution in water-swollen cellophane, textile rayon, and super tire cord. In the never-dried state, the maximum pore sizes were ca. 200, 100, and 50 A and median pore sizes approximately 40, 25, and 12 A, respectively. These values were smaller after the drying and reswelling of the materials in water. The results are discussed briefly in terms of the perfection of fibrillar packing. (Author)
