Abstract : The Report surveys the technique of superposing small deformations on large ones. The investigation is confined to elastic response, and explicit expressions for the incremental stress-strain relations are given for isotropy and transverse isotropy. The following problems are discussed: (1) small extensions of cylindrical tubes subjected to finite initial inflation, (2) material stability of undistorted states of a Mooney-Rivlin material, (3) internal buckling of finitely prestrained bodies, (4) formulation of incremental stress boundary conditions, (5) strain gradient theories.
