Abstract : The research is investigating thermally dependent structural changes occurring in glasses using x-ray r.d.f. and I.R. techniques. Recent improvements in x-ray theory and technique using pair function analysis has extended the limit of structural resolution to 3rd nearest neighbors and permits the evaluation of bond length and bond angle distributions. Structure-property correlations in vitreous silica are being carried out by stressing glass samples in the x-ray apparatus. The report discusses the results obtained in the first year of research under the Grant. (Author)
