Abstract : Uv irradiation of the fractions in air or O gives solids in which the ash-forming elements are concentrated. Gasoline, ligroine, kerosine, and various dearomatized or aromatic fractions separated from high-molecular weight fractions, crude oils, and residues with low S content were treated. Colored or dark high-molecular weight products were irradiated 5 to 7 hrs as thin layers on inert surfaces. The solid products were precipitated by dilution with petroleum ether. Their ash content was 0.66-4 percent. The yield of the solids increased with the b.p. of the fraction, varying from 7 to 12.4 percent. The ash of the photoproducts contained higher amounts of some elements, e.g. Ag, Ti, Al, and Ca. (Author)
