Abstract : The formula f = 1 - e to the minus nL/A power is frequently quoted for the expected fraction of casualties from explosive munitions fired into an area. However, the author has never seen a derivation of this formula that would stand close inspection. It is the purpose of this paper to put forward two derivations of this formula soundly based on rigorous mathematical principles. (Author)
