Abstract : A meridional model of the oxygen-hydrogen atmosphere between 65 km and 105 km is presented. Vertical transport, by eddies and by mean motion, is considered, while horizontal transport is disregarded. Sources and sinks of heat are computed. It is concluded that the horizontal variations in the chemical composition are relatively small. The chemical composition of the upper mesosphere and lower thermosphere is therefore believed to be largely determined by photochemistry and vertical transport. (Author)
