Abstract : The classical shell theory of Love and the shear deformation shell theory of Naghdi and Reissner are applied to the problem of an infinite cylindrical shell subjected to a constant radial pressure on portion of length. The results calculated by both theories are in good agreement for thin shells. Larger differences occur for thick shells with concentrated radial pressure load (line load). (Author)
