Abstract : The thermal decomposition of chlorine fluoride has been studied over the temperature range 2000-2950K using the technique of mass spectral sampling behind reflected shock waves. The reaction has been found to be complex, and evidence is offered to support the suggested mechanism which consists of the reactions: ClF + M to Cl + F + M, Cl + ClF = Cl2 + F, Cl2 + M to 2Cl + M. From experimental data k(-2) is estimated to be 1 x 10 to the 12th cc/mole sec. (Author)
