Abstract : The results demonstrate that, during storage or/and incubation, the blood from female donors, when compared to that of male donors, maintains better ATP levels, shows lower increases in blood relative viscosity and also presents higher resistance to hemolysis as indicated by lower plasma hemoglobin values and, in some cases, by osmotic fragility curves. With cell membrane preparations, differences are observed not only in the amounts of various components present but also in the extraction of those components into the salt solution. (Author)
