Abstract : The thermal degradation of perfluoropolypyridine has been studied in inert and oxidising atmospheres by thermogravimetric techniques. Volatile products have been analysed mass spectrometrically and the fluorine yield also determined. The stability of the polymer on a weight loss basis is rather better than polytetrafluoroethylene in inert atmospheres, but rather worse in oxidising atmospheres. The major breakdown route seems to involve removal of fluorine from the heterocyclic nucleus. (Author)
