Abstract : A laboratory simulation experiment was performed to determine the effect of the TV camera lens field of view upon air-to-ground target recognition by closed-circuit television. Measures of performance were probability of correct target recognition, range of correct recognition, and number of errors committed. It was found that, as the field of view decreased (1) probability of correct recognition decreased, (2) range of correct recognition increased, (3) incorrect target recognitions did not vary, and (4) number of no-response targets increased. The results were discussed in terms of their applicability to tactical airborne situations. (Author)
