Abstract : A model is presented to explain why fogs can be maintained for extended periods of time. The model considers the fog as a dynamical system whereby droplets depletion through fall is balanced by a continuous process of evaporation and condensation. The controlling parameters of the process are the heat transfer from the ground and the level of turbulence. The equations describing the system are presented and solved. Numerical examples are given and compared with experimental data. (Author)
