Abstract : The effect of 2, 6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol (I) and diaryl disulfides (II) on the oxidation of oils by 02 at 120 degrees in the presence of Cu and Fe was studied. The additive consumption and the yield of volatile acids were measured. The decrease of I concentration is linear and the rate of I consumption is approximately consistant in the studied concentration range (0.4-0.8 wt. percent). The actual values differ according the oil source. The effect of II is both inhibiting and promoting and is different for different oils. The oil stability, sensitivity to the additive, and the additive effectivity are defined and the methods for their estimation are suggested. (Author)
