Abstract : Chrome-syntan tanned leather (I), zirconium-syntan tanned leather (II), or zirconium-tanned leather (III) were tumbled in 5 percent aq. dispersions of acrylic emulsion (IV), latex LV (chloroprene-vinyl acetate copolymer) (V), melamine-HCHO resin (VI), or dicyandiamide resin (VII). The wear resistance of II treated with polyurethane resins VIII increased most (141.8-150.2 percent in comparison with the wear resistance of the control sample, taken as 100 percent). The moisture retention of II contg. 10.1 percent VIII was 15.4 percent and 37.7 percent after 2 and 24 hr immersion in water, resp. Also effective were VI, V, and VII when applied to II or III. The treatment of I with IV, V, or VI decreased the wear resistance; the treatment of I with VII increased it to 104.6 percent. (Author)
