Abstract : The paper presents an extension of the output error method of parameter identification to four and five parameter third order systems using a modified method of steep descent with a time invariant error surface. A three step adjustment algorithm is developed. This algorithm requires the use of results from a partial frequency response (at least two frequencies) and the steady state response to a step input. Results are presented for both four and five parameter systems. (Author)
