Abstract : The report concerns isotropic materials which undergo deformations and for which the electromagnetic constitutive equations take the form of a linear relation between the electric displacement field and electric field and a linear relation between the magnetic intensity and magnetic induction fields. The dielectric constant and specific reluctance matrices are assumed to depend on the history of the deformation gradients. The canonical forms for the constitutive equations are derived and formulae are obtained for the slowness of propagation of plane waves. These are discussed particularly in the case of time-dependent pure homogeneous deformations and shearing deformations. (Author)
