Abstract : A study of filariasis was carried out on Che Ju Island for three consecutive years from 1968 to 1970 in seven villages, three coastal villages of the main island and four islets remote from the main island. The purpose of the study was to determine important factors involved in its ecology and epidemiology, and to find out the most efficient and productive method for the control of human filariasis. Study on microfilaria periodicity showed definite nocturnal periodicity of the species with the higher counts between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m., and blood smears were done during this time. 90% of the population inhabiting the areas had at least one blood smear during three years; about one third of the surveyed population had all three blood smears one each year, a little over one third had two smears, the rest of them only one smear in three years.
