Abstract : The intensity and energy spectrum of cosmic ray electrons with E > or = 5 GeV have been studied using a nuclear emulsion-spark chamber combination detector triggered by scintillation and Cherenkov counters. This detector was flown on a high altitude balloon launched from Palestine, Texas, U.S.A. on September 19, 1967. The response of this detector has been studied with a Monte Carlo calculation developed to study the generation of an electromagnetic shower in emulsions. (Author)
