Abstract : A model relating personal values of managers and their behavior is adapted to study the value systems of union leaders. The model allows one to make an operational distinction between various classes of values which have different probabilities of being translated from the intentional state into actual behavior. The personal value systems of 136 union leaders in Minnesota are assessed and described with behavioral implications. Value results of the union leaders are also compared with an earlier study of managers. A moralistic value orientation is compared to a pragmatic orientation. The content of value classes which most influence behavior is found to be quite different for the two groups. (Author)
