Abstract : EDITOR is a Fortran program that performs editing, via eighteen commands, on any textual (alpha-numeric) material read from cards, producing an edited listing on the line printer. Thus, the line printer is made to perform the functions of a typewriter except that all printout is in upper case. The eighteen commands that control the editing must be inserted in the text to be edited. One (and only one) listing can be obtained for one or more sets of textual material per run. The commands allow a new page to be called and to have its length defined. The line spacing can be single, double, or triple and bold face type is simulated by overprinting. Left and right margins can be set; and, similarly, 26 tab stops can be set and used. The starting position of a pragraph can be defined and the paragraph action taken. Two of the commands facilitate data card corrections. A character space can be reserved for later insertion of a special symbol (a reminder list is provided) and up to nine lines skipped by a single command. Lastly there is a command to identify the end of the document. (Author)
