Abstract : Beginning in the 1930's, the Lake Sevan was constantly reduced in size on order to supply water for the needs of hydroelectric power stations. As a result, the volume and area of the lake constantly decreased. This plan for sacrificing Lake Sevan for the needs of the national economy could only continue for a period of about 50 years. Fortunately, at the end of the 50 years other conditions had arisen which have made it possible to begin work on the restoration of Lake Sevan. The article describes some of the measures which are being taken for this purpose. Emphasis is on construction of the Arpa-Sevan canal. The article is of interest to those concerned with Russian Hydroelectric Power. (Author)
