Abstract : A total of 55 test subjects from age 14 to age 79 contributed 4400 recorded reaction times in a controlled experiment in the Human Factors Laboratory of the Operations Research Department at the Naval Postgraduate School. One purpose of the experiment was to compare the conventional brake and accelerator system to a new, dual-function, single-pedal system that was developed at the school. A second purpose was to investigate the effect on reaction time of a five degree seat tilt at pedal-floor angles of 45, 50, and 55 degrees with this new pedal. (Author)
