Abstract : An evaluation of the performance of a diver with communication was attempted in two experiments. The major experiment involved the observation of the use of underwater communicators by saturated scientific divers on the Tektite II program. The secondary experiment involved the examination of communications with closed cycle diving equipment. Data on saturated divers, though not extensive, showed that communication equipment performance and training were primary factors in influencing diver performance. Communications with closed cycle equipment showed a considerable qualitative improvement as compared to open cycle equipment, due to lack of exhaust gas interference. (Author)
