Abstract : Transferrin polymorphism appears to be a relatively frequent occurrence (27.2%) in the sooty mangebey (Cercocebus torquatus atys). Only two forms of transferrin were observed in this study; the small sample number (eleven) precludes concluding that these are the only forms in the species. Thus, the sooty mangabey may prove to be a suitable animal for study of naturally occurring transferrin forms. However, the rhesus would still be the choice species for genetic studies since the sooty mangabey does not breed as readily in captivity. (Author)
