Abstract : In any Doppler radar measurement of the drift velocity of a meteor trail, the duration of the trail limits the data collection to a time interval on the order of one second, and often less. It is shown that the corresponding limitation on measurement of frequency of the returned radar pulse, imposed by the uncertainty principle, is not trivial. For the frequencies commonly used, root mean square errors on the order of several meters per second should be expected. (Author)
