Abstract : On the assumption that a laser weapon of sufficient capacity to destroy a military target could be produced, the purpose of this paper is as follows: to determine if such a weapon could theoretically be employed accurately enough to be effective, to determine what requirements would be imposed on the fire control systems for such a weapon; and in support of this analysis, to obtain experimental data on the behavior of a pulsed high intensity beam in a turbulent atmosphere.
