Abstract : The paper presents a model for calculating the maximum probability of detection of a submarine using a detection barrier of fixed length. It is assumed in this calculation that location and heading of the submarine are known to some degree of certainty. The barrier which is considered in this model could arise either from a single or multiplatform barrier operation or from a barrier of deployable acoustic sensors. (Author)
