Abstract : The report deals with research into communications through the surface scattering channel. Results are included from a series of experiments performed with a model tank. These deal with surface statistics and the statistics of the impulse response of the channel. Theoretical studies dealing with the character of the channel, optimum signal design, and the performance of correlation detectors are also included. (Author)
