Abstract : Resonant methods were used to measure the properties of Pb(Zr, Ti)O3 ceramics, emphasizing mechanical Q, over the temperature rang -180 degrees C to +165 degrees C, with specimens whose dimensions were chosen to give a frequency range of about 60 kHz to about 850 kHz. The relationships between loss 1/(Q sub M) maxima and minima and possible loss mechanisms are discussed. This temperature dropoff in Q sub M is attributed to increasing conductivity, while increased losses at low temperatures are tentatively ascribed to a phase transition. Some work is also described on quasistatic strain vs. stress measurements. (Author)
