Abstract : The studies were aimed at investigating some of the biochemical, physical and histologic events which comprise the fundamental processes of wound healing, and those influences (biological, chemical, physical) which accelerate or retard them. The studies were directed towards determining (1) methods for increasing the rate at which wounds gain strength, not by increasing the rate of fibroplasia and collagen synthesis (approaches which have generally been fruitless) but by increasing the rate at which reparative collagen is cross-linked.
