Abstract : In this investigation various aspects of in vitro permeability rates for methylsalicylate, ethylsalicylate and glycolsalicylate in excised human callous tissue and stratum corneum conjunctum were studied. Permeability coefficients were determined for these esters in both hydrous and anhydrous membranes of the above tissues at four different temperatures. From these experiments the actual transport rates and activation energies for the process can be calculated. With this information the effect of changes in the membrane as well as the influence of certain physical constants of the penetrants on the penetration rate can be evaluated.
