Abstract : The boundary value problem considered in the investigation was that of radiation of electromagnetic waves from a two-dimensional parallel plate infinitely flanged waveguide. It was determined through extensive analysis that Galerkin's method is applicable to this problem and that its implementation by partial systems yields excellent results. Specific attention has been given to a study of the accuracy of the method and the results of this study are reported. The method has been utilized to compute results that are not available elsewhere - the first 120 non-zero reflection coefficients for various frequencies in the resonance region. Also for several frequencies in this region, graphs of the reflection coefficient modulus versus mode number, illustrating their asymptotic behavior, are presented. The complete computer program is included for the readers discernment and general reference. Suggestions are made for extensions of this work. (Author)
