Abstract : Chemical compositions of gaseous nebulae, and the atmospheres of both normal stars and objects with unusual metal/H ratio have been investigated by procedures of modern spectrophotometry and stellar atmosphere theory. Particular attention has been paid to the physics of gaseous nebulae as representing an example of an extended, highly attenuated, steady state, ionized plasma. The methods developed and results obtained have an impact in other areas of astrophysical interest--extended stellar envelopes, the solar corona, the filamentary structures of objects such as the solar chromosphere.
