Abstract : The study investigated the effects of the position of the correct response, the position of the blank, and their interaction, on analogy item difficulty. Results of a 4 x 5 ANOVA on each of 30 items administered to 221 college students showed that blank position alone does not appear to be a factor in the difficulty of analogy items, that correct response position and the interaction between blank position and correct response position are probably significant factors in the difficulty of analogy items, and that changes in item difficulty as a result of changes in blank position and correct response position tend to occur more readily for easier items than for more difficult items.
