Abstract : The action of certain fungi and bacteria on wool strands and the dependence of their growth upon the presence of wool fat are studied in an investigation of factors causing the degradation of wool. Most of the bacteria studied were found to attack wool, with or without wool fat, preferring to utilize thick wool rather than thin. High temperature and humidity also contribute to wool degradation.
