Abstract : 2,4,5- TRINITROTOLUENE IS ONE OF THE MAIN IMPURITIES IN COMMERCIAL AND MILITARY GRADES OF TNT (2,4,6- trinitrotoluene). However, the crystal structure is not known and there has been no evidence published suggesting the existence of polymorphism. This note describes some properties of a new crystalline form of 2,4,5-TNT, some previously unreported properties of normal 2,4,5-TNT, and observations of the associated polymorphic transformation. The two polymorphic forms have been designated I and II, where I is the previously reported form. This assignment is in accordance with normal procedure as form I has the higher melting point and is more stable at room temperature. (Author)
