Abstract : A recent electron spin resonance investigation of the radical species produced in gamma-irradiated poly-4-methylpent-1-ene (p4mp1) resulted in the identification of two radicals. When p4mp1 was irradiated in a vacuum at 77K, one radical was identified. This radical was unstable and upon thermal treatment decayed rapidly to yield the other radical. The conversion process was not reversed by recooling to 77K. In the communication the authors wish to report chemical evidence indicative of the production of the first radical. (Author)
