Abstract : At the present time there are limited instrumental measurements of the circumpolar currents in the Southern Hemisphere, i.e. of the currents of westerly winds and along the Antarctic coast. In order to characterize them, one has to use indirect investigational methods. Because of this, the measurements of surface currents made with the aid of the electromagnetic current meter (EMIT) is of interest. Such measurements were carried out during the Second Antarctic Sea Expedition in the survey ship Ob' in February-March 1957. (Author)
