Abstract : The Audio ECG Monitor is an electronic device which converts the electrocardiogram into an amplitude- and frequency-modulated tone. This allows the shape of an electrocardiogram to be determined merely by listening. Provision is also made for measuring the amplitudes of portions of a waveform. Hence, the monitor provides much the same information as an oscilloscope but has the capability of long-term operation on batteries, portability, and ruggedness. In addition, the monitor allows the eyes of a surgeon to be freed for other duties as may be necessary during surgery. (Author)
