Abstract : Polycrystalline surfaces of molybdenum, tungsten and rhenium at temperatures up to 2600K were exposed to free molecule flows of hydrogen, helium, nitrogen, oxygen and argon at Mach numbers up to 4 from a room temperature source. Time-of-flight measurements were made for molecules reflected in the surface normal direction. Apparent translational accommodation coefficients ranged from .01 for hydrogen on a hot surface to nearly unity for all gases on surfaces at room temperature. (Author)
